It was only when I finally undertook to read the Bible through from beginning to end that I perceived that its depiction of the Lord God—whom I had always viewed as the very embodiment of perfection—was actually that of a monstrous, vengeful tyrant, far exceeding in bloodthirstiness and insane savagery the depredations of Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Attila the Hun, or any other mass murderer of ancient or modern history.

Steve Allen, Steve Allen on the Bible, Religion & Morality, 1990

I love this quote!  I remember the first time I saw it in a friend’s home office a few years ago.  I’d read the Bible a few times at that point, but had yet to step back and read it objectively without the faith tinted glasses.  I remember feeling uncomfortable, because I was a still a Christian at the time.  The comparison seemed unfair.  God may have killed, but he was a just God and his actions were valid.  Yeah I know it’s hard to believe that I actually thought like that.  The next time the atheist to Hitler and Stalin comparison is made, I must remember to make the God connection as well.  ~ Kim

A poet once said, ‘life can be a challenge, life can seem impossible, but it’s never easy when there’s so much on the line.’

Anyone who falls in love is searching for the missing pieces of themselves. So anyone who’s in love gets sad when they think of their lover. It’s like stepping back inside a room you have fond memories of, one you haven’t seen in a long time.
